Bowed legs in a toddler is very common. When a child with bowed legs stands with his or her feet together, there is a distinct space between the lower legs and knees. This may be a result of either one, or both, of the legs curving outward. Walking often exaggerates this bowed appearance. In most cases, bowed legs will naturally begin to straighten as the child grows.

Why does Peripheral Edema Occur?
Ever had a pain in the buttock that runs down the back of your leg? A pain that makes it uncomfortable to drive or sit for long periods? Chances are, you may be experiencing what is commonly called sciatica. While it is a very common ailment, the causes and treatments vary for each individual. The truth is sciatica, medically referred to as radicular pain, is a symptom of inflammation of a spinal nerve that radiates down the sciatic nerve, which is the largest nerve in the body. This nerve serves the muscles in the back of your knee and lower leg and also provides feeling to the back of your thigh and the soles of your feet. What people call sciatica can have a number of causes including a muscle inflammation, a herniated or bulging disc, bone spurs, spinal stenosis, or a slipped vertebra called spondylolisthesis. Other less common causes can include a tumor or diseases such as diabetes.
Tonnessen, MD, a Yale Medicine vascular surgeon. One of the reasons feet and legs tend to swell more than, say, arms and fingers, is simply that gravity pulls the fluids in the body down to the lower extremities, says Dr. But when fluid remains pooled in your feet, legs or ankles, that swelling is called edema. In these cases, propping your feet up on a pillow at the end of the day should help bring your feet back down to size. But when you take in too much sodium, it can cause your body to retain water, causing puffiness and swelling. While fluid retention and vascular conditions are the most common causes of swelling, you could also be walking around with inflammation from a fracture or tendinitis—one major way to tell the difference is these injuries usually hurt! All that extra blood and fluid is helping your foot heal, and you can do your part by staying off your foot and taking anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen to bring down the pain and swelling. Most expectant moms find they need to trade in their heels for comfy flats as their feet start to swell. First of all, your body retains more fluid during pregnancy. Your growing belly also puts more pressure on your pelvic floor, leading to increased pressure on the blood vessels in your legs.
